The Rauner Family YMCA Sports and Social Center, located in the heart of Pilsen, recognized the activity of its benefactors during its annual Sporting Festival. Three distinguished professional athletes who have supported the social and sporting activities of the YMCA were honored.
Roberto Garza
Martha L Gutierrez, executive director of the Rauner Family YMCA, welcomed acclaimed Bears defensive lineman Roberto Garza, who was grateful for the acknowledgement and commented about his team.
“I’m happy to be with the community, to continue helping. With the team I’m happy for our three consecutive victories. This gives us confidence to face our next rival on Sunday. The team’s goal is to end up in the Super Bowl.”
Diego Gutierrez
Another athlete recognized in the ceremony was Colombian Chicago Fire midfielder Diego Gutierrez, who thanked the YMCA for its honors and commented about his own team. “We’ve met one of our primary goals of playing in the Open Cup this season. However, decisive games are approaching in New York and here in Chicago. We will try to get in the best position to be able to play at home in the playoffs. The team continues to be in good shape, soccer-wise,” Gutierrez said.
Ozzie Guillen
Venezuelan White Sox coach Ozzie Guillen was also the subject of recognition for his community activity outside of the playing field. Due to a commitment with his team, the award was received by Mina Pineda, administrative coordinator for the White Sox.
At the Sporting Festival, master of ceremonies was Eduardo Fernandez, vice president and director of WSNS, Telemundo Chicago. In addition to Director Martha Gutierrez, the Sporting Festival committee was made up by Jean Sussman, Edward Velazquez, Miguel Alva, Neli Velazquez, Adriana Venegas-Pinedo, Cruz Contreras, Yanira Valdez, Julieta Rosado and Alicia Medina.
