It’s no surprise that the 2008 elections has become an important issue among young people. Such a revolutionary election – where we not only had the first woman running for president, but also the first African-American – should not be taken lightly. This is a history-making election.

Our two remaining candidates have great ideas for a better America, but only one can make them a reality. Being Latina, an important issue for me are their views on immigration.

Sen. John McCain had decided to make an alliance with México as a win-win situation, whereas Sen. Barack Obama would like to improve México’s economic state so that their citizens can have as great an opportunity in their country. In addition, Obama would not be against keeping the immigrants that have already crossed the borders, as long as they take steps into becoming legal citizens.

The war in Iraq is an ongoing ordeal. Supporting our troops doesn’t necessarily mean supporting the war. I don’t think we should be taking care of other countries problems when we can’t even control our own. Iraq won’t improve as a country if they think we are there to do it for them. Removing our troops is the only way that will become possible.

So let’s side with Obama, our troops have done enough. Obama can be the opportunity our country needs to start a new path. His ideas and views can be just what our country needs at this very critical moment.
