It had been five years since Luis Miguel had featured any new material. His latest album, Cómplices was released on May 6 and includes 12 new songs from famous Spanish composer Manuel Alejandro. Luis Miguel and Manuel Alejandro co-produced the album, which debuts in the 10th spot on Billboards “Top 200” (Billboard). That was Luis Miguel’s highest U.S. debut. Cómplices also debuts at number one of Billboard’s Top Latin Albums and putting Luis Miguel in the history books by being the artist with the most number one Billboard Top Latin Albums to date.
Luis Miguel, who kicked off his tour earlier this month in the West Coast, is undoubtedly one of the most important Latin artists in the world. His career spans over two decades and boasts over 20 studio albums, including 52 million record sales, 120 platinum records as well as six gold records, nine Grammy awards, nine Billboard Music Awards and three World Music Awards.
In 2003, he was nominated in the Favorite Latin Artist category of the American Music Awards. With his debut in the ranchera genre (México en la Piel), he was awarded the 2005 Latin Grammy for “Best Ranchero Album.”
In México, Cómplices debuted at number one, selling 320,000 copies within the first few hours of its release and earning him four platinum records. Three weeks later, the new album earned diamond status for selling more than 400,000 copies. The album also debuted at number one in the sales charts in México, Argentina, Spain, United States, Chile, Colombia and Perú. On April 7, the first single titled “Si Tú Te Atreves” was released and jumped to the number one spot in the Mexican radio waves. On April 28th, the music video premiered.
