A leader in green technology

The United Neighborhood Organization’s (UNO) Veterans Memorial School Campus is among the leading institutions in green technology. UNO recently installed solar thermal panels at the campus, which is already green in design. The thermal panels work to heat water for the school’s food preparation, showering and other daily uses. They also help keep the building cool by reducing humidity in incoming air used by the HVAC system.



UNO’s Veterans Memorial School Campus is the only public school in the Midwest using solar thermal panels. The campus, which holds 1,800 students with two grammar schools and UNO’s first high school, also targets Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification. Through its green philosophy, UNO utilizes state of the art technology at all campuses to teach students the importance of taking care of their planet.



The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation funded the project.
