Do you have an idea of staff to patient load?

There are not enough people to handle the system. We don't promote what we do. We need people to go to each hospital and work on individual problems.



There are no trauma units south of 95th Street. How do you plan on addressing this?

We have talked to St. James and a number of hospitals. Those trauma units are very expensive; we need to get federal money. No plan is in place now. The board had a long term plan; primary care and outreach services, but they didn't address this issue. It eliminates trauma services. Stroger Hospital is easy for the West suburbs. The people who live far south don't have transportation. We need to figure out how to have a trauma center.



What do you plan to do with the old Cook County Hospital facility?

One proposal is for renovation and the other is to knock it down.



Which one are you for?

I like saving the façade and do a partnership of some sort, office space for hospital administration or building some residences for some of the medical personal.



Tell us about your hiring policy of Hispanics at the Cook County Board?

We do not have a specific hiring policy for any group.



How many Hispanics have been hired since you've become president of the Cook County Board?

Approximately 75 Hispanics across the board out of a workforce of 22,000. My administration has hired Hispanics at a policy making level. We have had two deputy of communication, the comptroller of the county, the emergency ...
