• Works alongside the County Board to run the county

• Departments such as communications, finance and human

resources report directly to the president

• Cook County residents are affected by his/her decisions




Party Affiliation - Democrat

Martial Status - Married

Religion - Unitarian

Education - The University of Chicago

Political Experience - 4th Ward Alderman since 1991

Endorsements - Congressman Luis Gutiérrez, Aldermen Manny Flores and Rey Colón

What would you do different if you win the Democratic primary for Cook County Board President?

Four things. Work for the repeal of the 1 percent sales tax, make the health care governing board [permanent], reduce our retention of non-violent offenders and fourth, economic growth and job development.



What do you want the Hispanic community to know about you that you have not shared with another news source?

I have been a strong supporter in the City Council of Billy Ocasio and others to protect the rights of immigrants. Chicago is in the forefront of this. We decided that we would not let police officers enforce immigration laws. People come to this country for many different reasons. The country has been enriched and we need to look at immigration in this light.



Your challenger, Terry O'Brien, said, "Todd Stroger, who never attends board meetings, has a lot of payroll. If there is no leadership at the top, people don't care." Can you comment on this?

He's wrong. Stroger does attend board meetings. My view is that one of the difficulties ...
