7th District Cook County Commissioner Candidate
Joseph Mario Moreno

by Mila Téllez

to Stroger Hospital. Many have gotten lay-off notices but we have to go through the union process. We are going to do away with over staffing and change the nature of services provided there.

There are no trauma units past 95th Street for the residents. What needs to be done?

We have a problem with the closing of the hospitals in Blue Island, unless there are additional revenues coming into the health care system, I don't see it happening anytime soon. Fifty percent of my community is below the age of 25, that is a big huge block of uninsured people.

Would you vote to repeal the 1 percent point sales tax increase that took place in 2008?

I voted against the override for the sake of health care.

Is that where you and Stroger are aligned? Health care?

Yes, we are both concerned about health care.

You have had a long political career, what are your major successes?

My ability to bridge neighborhoods; provide leadership at the county board, to provide services to my community with the stroke of one brush.
