The Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival will take place July 23 to 25, from noon to 11 p.m. along Milwaukee Avenue between Kimball Avenue and California Avenue. The festival includes several galleries that will showcase poetry, dance, performance art and music performances.
“We recruited a diverse group of talented artists and curators to capture the unique spirit of the Logan Square neighborhood and the cultural wealth of the city as a whole,” said Víctor M. Montáñez, artist recruitment chairman/monument area.
Although Alderman Rey Colón who helped organize the event said, “This is a great opportunity to hear music that conveys Logan Square’s diverse and vibrant spirit,” the music lineup has been criticized for being heavy on the indie scene and lagging in Latin music, given that Latinos make up 65 percent of Logan Square’s population.
The festival also includes a plethora of artist exhibitions, a sculpture garden and trolleys to transport people from one end of the festival to the other. The festival was organized by I AM Logan Square (Independent Artist and Merchants of Logan Square.)
