The Fire Win, Lose and Help CPS

The Chicago Fire continues its roller coaster ride this season. The signing of two new designated players, a new game plan and the return of some injured players earned the team both a win and a loss over the course of three days in their respective games between New England Revolution on Aug. 18 and Houston Dynamo on Aug. 21.

Fire vs. Revolution
The Fire’s starting 11 included the return of Gonzalo Segares and the first official start of Nery Castillo. For the first time in a long time, the Fire looked calm and composed on the soccer field. That coolness led the team to a 2-1 win over the Revolution and the addition of three more points.

After falling into a 1-1 tie in the 32’ of play with a goal by Fire midfielder Baggio Husidic, Fire’s head coach Carlos de los Cobos sent in Calen Carr into the field. Carr suffered an injury at the end of last year’s preseason and was sidelined since October of 2009. The young forward made the best of his return, scoring the winning goal in the 86’, sealing the game.

“To get out there and be part of the team again and in my first game back to score the game winner, I think it’s going to give us a great boost going into the next few games,” Carr said after the game.

Dymano vs. Fire
After trailing 2-0 by the 50’ of the game, Carr came to the rescue again, narrowing down Houston’s lead 2-1.

But Dymano’s forward Brian Ching stole the night, putting his team up 3-1 with a bicycle kick. Shortly after, Dynamo’s defenseman Bobby Boswell scored on his own goal and the scoreboard read 3-2.
