According to Donate Life statistics, 19,000 of the 108,000 people waiting for transplants in the U.S. are Hispanic.
“If we have more Spanish-speaking volunteers who could help spread the message to other Spanish-speaking people, we could save the lives of many. Everyday, 18 people die waiting for a transplant. Volunteers can help save their lives and make a difference by joining the cause to encourage others to register as donors”, said Raiza Mendoza, Latino Affairs Coordinator for Gift of Hope.
Those who have doubts about registering to become a volunteer can visit the Gift of Hope Red de Donantes de Organos y Tejidos page on Facebook to find answers to commonly asked questions. Additionally, visitors can register as a volunteer and donor, and tell his or her story of how donation has affected his or her life. All of the information on the Facebook page is in Spanish.
