Accomplishments:
• He supports a plan that requires undocumented workers to pay a fine for entering the country illegally, learn English, pay taxes and wait in line to become citizens.
• He supports the bipartisan DREAM Act to provide certain undocumented immigrant students the opportunity to earn conditional permanent residency if they have graduated from U.S. high schools and have been in the country continuously for at least five years.

Accomplishments:
• As congressman, Kirk helped reunite families through the “Abuelita” grandmothers program. Working with the U.S. Embassy in México and local community leaders, the “Abuelita” program helps grandmothers in Tonatico, San José and La Luz secure tourist visas to visit their families in the U.S.
• Kirk started Families Involved Reading Stories Together (FIRST), a free program to help young Latina mothers learn English at the College of Lake County.

To be a candidate for the U.S. Senate, one must be at least 30 years of age, be a citizen of the U.S. for nine years and be a resident of the state from which they are seeking election.
