• She voted to prohibit city employees from enforcing federal immigration laws.
• She voted to create a committee on affirmative action.
• She voted to establish a subcommittee on minority and women business requirements.
Accomplishments:
• He built the coalition that secured the first Latino judges in Cook County. The coalition included Republicans, the Black Caucus and then Sen. Miguel del Valle.
• He supported and financed the efforts of independent Latinos in Humboldt Park to elect an independent, community-oriented leader, Angel “Tito” Medina.
Role
The President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners is the Chief Executive Officer of Cook County. The president is elected countywide for a term of four years.
Responsibilities
The president has the power to veto any ordinance passed by the county legislative branch (the Board of Commissioners). The president’s primary responsibility is to propose the county budget.
Oversee
There are seven other countywide elected officials who are also executive officers in their own right, overseeing functions and services of county government for their units of government: (1) Sheriff, (2) Treasurer, (3) Assessor, (4) County Clerk, (5) Recorder of Deeds, (6) State’s Attorney and (7) Clerk of the Circuit Court.
