NFL
• Wade Phillips out in Dallas: After a 1-7 start, the Dallas Cowboys have fired head coach Phillips after the team’s embarrassing 45-7 loss to Green Bay. Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones had earlier said he would not make a coaching change midseason, but he was fed up with his team in the past couple weeks. Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett will assume the head coaching duties on an interim basis and this will be his opportunity to audition for Jones and potentially get the job full-time.

• Packers’ safety Nick Collins fined: Collins was fined $50,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Dallas Cowboys receiver Roy Williams during their 45-7 win on Monday. League officials said the hit was unnecessary and a blatant violation of the new policy and was also assessed as an unnecessary roughness penalty.

MLS
• Playoff time: San Jose Earthquakes will face the Colorado Rapids Nov. 13 while FC Dallas will take on Los Angeles Galaxy Nov. 14. The two winners will meet in the MLS Cup final Nov. 21 in Toronto.

NHL
• Blackhawks ice disaster: With a record of 8-8-1, the Hawks roller coaster ride continues. Currently in third place in the Central Division and 17th in the league, the Stanley Cup Champions seem to lack any skills this season.

Liguilla Mexicana
• Winners and losers: Cruz Azul, Monterrey, Santos and América hold the top four positions in the 16th week of play. Meanwhile, with one week of the regular season remaining, Chivas, Toluca and Pumas are out of the playoffs.
