With the power couple of Lisa ¨La Boriqua¨ and Andrés Meneses as the driving force behind one of Chicago’s premier dance companies, Latin Street Dancing (LSD) has evolved and expanded over the years since its humble beginnings in small hardwood spaces and a pure passion for dancing in 1998 to encompass just about every aspect of the Latin music business.
Not only has LSD solidified its position as one of the most sought-after and reputable dance studios in the city, but also developed a prolific and ambitious production extension committed to quality live programming, variety and talent representation.
The promotional arm, Latin Street Productions, produces all of LSD’s events and has a long list full of accomplishments. Among its highlights: the “Latin Street Salsa Congreso,” now on its 5th year scheduled from June 23 to June 26 of 2011; the creation of the “Latin Dance Review,” an advanced theater performance show; and “Blue After Dark” on Navy Pier’s Mystic Blue boat, providing a unique opportunity to listen and dance to live music on the top deck and DJ’s below while enjoying a summer night on the lake.
Currently, Latin Street Productions keeps dancers and Latin music enthusiasts satisfied with its four regular events at diverse venues. Dinner and Live Music Tuesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Nacional 27, 325 W. Huron St. complements Latin cuisine with vibrant performances from some of the best groups in the city, such as Orquesta con Son Dec. 28 under the direction of José Valdés.
The concept comes after a successful five-year run of Live Music Wednesdays at Carnivale, 702 W. Fulton Market. At 7:30 p.m., your meal is accompanied by bands such as 2007 Chicagoan of the Year Ángel Meléndez’s quartet
