The NFL season is over and the playoffs are underway, meaning official season awards will soon be announced. I don’t have a vote but if I did, here is how my ballot would shape up.
Most Valuable Player: Tom Brady, QB New England Patriots
Brady’s accomplishments include a record 319 pass attempts without an interception, 11 straight games without an interception, nine consecutive two-touchdown, zero interception games and 26 touchdowns without an interception. Overall, Brady finished the season with 3,900 yards, 36 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
Offensive Player of the Year: Michael Vick, QB Philadelphia Eagles
Vick threw for over 3,000 yards and had 21 touchdowns while also rushing for over 600 yards and nine touchdowns. Vick tormented league defenses and is lethal with both his arm and legs.
Defensive Player of the Year: Clay Matthews, LB Green Bay Packers
Matthews had 13.5 sacks and 60 tackles this season for a banged up Packer defense. Matthews is a ball hawk and is the leader of the defense.
Offensive Rookie of the Year: Sam Bradford, QB St. Louis Rams
The #1 overall pick in the 2010 draft led the Rams to a 7-9 record and one game within a division championship and playoff berth. His 3,512 yards and 18 touchdowns weren’t bad either.
Defensive Rookie of the Year: Ndamukong Suh, DT Detroit Lions
This was a close call between Suh and Devin McCourty of the New England Patriots but I have to give it to Suh. Although McCourty had more tackles (82), Suh had 10 sacks and was a matchup nightmare.
Comeback Player of the Year: E.J. Henderson, LB Minnesota Vikings
Henderson had 106 tackles and three interceptions after suffering a broken leg last season
