#6 New York Jets vs. #1 New England
Saturday, 3:30 p.m. at Gillette Stadium (CBS)
It is going to take a perfect performance from his defense to stop Tom Brady (3,900 YD, 36 TD, 4 INT, 111 RTG) and the Patriots from moving on to the Conference Championship.
The Pats offense has put up more points per game than any other team this season and beat their divisional rival 45-3 the last time they met. The Jets will have to rely on their defense, 3rd best overall to do Sunday’s dirty work because their offense has been inconsistent throughout the season.
Mark Sanchez (3,291 YD, 17 TD, 13 INT, 75.3 RTG) will have to step up, but he has a weapon in wide receiver Santonio Holmes, who will most likely be covered by Patriots’ corner back Devin McCourty. McCourty is a just a rookie but boasts 7 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and a sack this season. The Jets’ ground game has been strong under LaDainian Tomlinson who has 2 touchdowns in the postseason.
Prediction: New England, but the interdivisional matchup will lead to a closer-scoring game than their last meeting in Week 13.
#5 Baltimore Ravens vs. #2 Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday, 3:30 p.m. at Heinz Field (CBS)
The bitter rivalry between the Ravens and the Steelers will make for an excellent playoff game. The last time they met, a quarterback’s nose was broken.
Both defenses have proven their pedigree, so it will be on each offense to put up their best performances yet if either wants to move on to the Conference Championship round. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (3,200 YD, 17 TD, 5 INT, 97.0 RTG) was suspended for the first four games of the regular season, causing
