Injuries and Shooting Guards: Keys to the Bulls’ Continued Success

After a big win against the Miami Heat Jan. 15, the Chicago Bulls now look ahead to the rest of their schedule before the All-Star break arrives.

Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng have led the Bulls to their best record at this point in the season since 1998 using a one-game-at-a-time philosophy. However, the Bulls have lacked production at the shooting guard position. Chicago also can’t seem to close out games consistently in Joakim Noah’s absence.

Bulls guard Keith Bogans continues to be a non-factor on offense and isn’t playing starter’s minutes. Head coach Tom Thibodeau has been using the “if it’s not broke don’t fix it” mentality, which is why he continues to go with Bogans as a starter even though fans have called for his removal. Bogans lack of production on offense and sometimes defensive effort are reasons why Chicago constantly finds themselves playing from behind in games.

The solution?

The Bulls need to make a trade for a solid two guard that will not only compliment Rose but also create his own offense when he is resting on the bench. A few of the available players on the trading block are Stephen Jackson from Charlotte, O.J. Mayo from Memphis and up until the recent rumors connecting him with a trade to New Jersey to play alongside Carmelo Anthony, Rip Hamilton from Detroit. Each one of those players can certainly provide their own type of offense and Thibodeau could probably make them into defensive stoppers.
