Chicago City Clerk Miguel del Valle, just off his campaign for mayor of Chicago, endorsed Cuahutemoc "Temoc" Morfin for alderman of the 25th Ward today, calling the candidate "part of a new, progressive movement" in Chicago politics.
Morfin, who owns a small contracting business with his brother, moved to Pilsen some three decades ago with his family when they emigrated from Mexico. He became a community leader, organizing around issues like immigration rights and public school funding.
In the February 22 municipal election, Morfin forced 15-year incumbent Ald. Danny Solis into a runoff.
"For those of us concerned with issues of reform, of the environment, of strong neighborhood schools, Morfin is the candidate most deserving of our endorsement," said del Valle. "My campaign for mayor was been based on a vision for neighborhood-focused government in the city Chicago. Morfin is a clear ally in that mission."
Del Valle's is the latest in a string of endorsements for Morfin from progressive organizations and leaders, including Citizen Action Illinois, Northside Democracy for America, Progressive Democrats of America--Chicago, Dr. Quentin Young and the Chicago Teachers Union, among others.
