Nuestro Queso’s ‘Cocina, Saborea y ¡Gana!’ (Create, Dazzle and Win) recipe contest came to a conclusion when Jonatan Romero’s tastefully simple gourmet dish of cheese-filled chicken and herbs was declared the first place winner.
The final cook-off was held on Monday, May 16 at St. Augustine College’s main campus and found four finalists, out of dozens of entries submitted between March and May, preparing their best recipe to be sampled by a panel of six judges.
Nuestro Queson invited aspiring cooks to submit their best recipe using a Nuestro Queso product and compete to win $2,000 (first place), $1,000 (second place) and $500 (third place) towards tuition at St. Augustine College, as well as a Nuestro Queso product basket worth approximately $250 (fourth place).
“We were happily surprised by the interest the contest generated”, said Janet Dominguez, Marketing Director for Nuestro Queso. “There are some outstanding cooks in our community and we are very happy to being able to contribute to the educational aspirations of the finalists”.
Other winners included Adrian Romero (second place), Yadira Lara (third place) and Victoria Martinez (fourth place).
The judging panel included Mark Braun, President, Nuestro Queso; Lucy Lucy, radio personality, La Que Buena 105.9 FM; Johanna Londono, radio personality, La Mega 95.5 FM; Rafael Perez. Executive Chef, St. Augustine College; and Alberto Plumacher, V.P. Production, Cheese Master, Nuestro Queso. Recipes were judged on flavor, creativity, cultural connection, originality, presentation, and cooking process.
