Since 2004, Dorothy Stang Popular Education Adult High School, has granted high school diplomas to more than 160 bilingual adult students. The guest speaker at this year’s graduation ceremony was former Chicago City Clerk Miguel del Valle who also spoke at the first graduation in 2004. He inspired the students to continue their studies, congratulated their reaching their goals and encouraged them to continue to follow their dreams. A few students presented testimonials during the ceremony and all students share their experiences at the end of the school year. Leticia Chávez, who was accepted into a program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, states, “My experience at Dorothy Stang Adult High School has been incredible. It has made an impact upon me personally in so many ways. The familiarity with teachers was fascinating because they demonstrated their dedication, commitment, motivation and patience with all the students. They motivated me to learn every day and be interested in each class and share our knowledge with each other. Another graduate, Felix Flores, stated, “attending this school has helped me in many ways that I could have never imagined. My goals have changed drastically. I never thought of attending college and now I can see myself with a career. My experience at Dorothy Stang High School was excellent because I was able to graduate and this will help me get a better job.” Jocabeth Gonzalez added, “we dedicate so much time to our lives and our families and work that we forget to be ourselves. Going back to school was a big step for me. Dorothy Stang High School has opened a door for us to excel in the future. I thank all the teachers who contributed their time and support
