The Laguna Region, also known as the Comarca Lagunera, is formed by 16 municipalities, eleven of which belong to the state of Durango. It is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges and it is known as the Laguna region because prior to the construction of several dams, the Nazas River - which crosses the northern section of the state - used to flow into the Mayrán Lagoon instead of the sea.
Two of the three main cities in this basin belong to Durango: Gómez Palacio and Lerdo, which have become key cities for commerce and business due to the railroad system that connects them. Both are famous for the entrepreneurial character of its residents and its business environment; however they are also filled with culture and history, captivating visitors with their quiet streets and beautiful buildings.

The history of the region is told through the architecture of its remarkable temples and colonial buildings, intimately related to the religious missions that arrived in the New Spain, as well as the Mexican Revolution.
Nature lovers will find many parks and gardens within the main cities, as well as mystical landscapes in its surroundings, ideal for extreme sports and ecotourism. The Sierra de Mapimí and Sierra del Rosario are perfect for camping, hiking and tyrolean cable activities. They also offer spectacular views and natural wonders such as the caves of Grutas del Rosario, located 90 kilometers from Lerdo municipality.
