According to the American Lung Association, approximately 4.8 million Hispanics smoke compared to 21.3 percent of non-Hispanic blacks and 22 percent of non-Hispanic whites.
Steve Milin, CEO of Vapor4Life was a life-long chain smoker who started when he was nine years old.
“He tried everything to quit: patches, pills, hypnotism, acupuncture, gum. You name it, he tried it and never had any success,” said Steve’s wife, Melanie Milin.
Milin stated that her husband tried the electronic cigarette and thought he could do that instead of smoking. When he noticed there were flaws in the products on the market at the time; they were messy and required many parts, Steve ordered everything that was on the market at the time and came up with his own product - a simple two piece device.
The V4L e-cigarette consists of the battery, that you can recharge up to 300 times, and the cartomizer. The cartomizer is a cartridge with a coil built in that heats up a solution, which contains nicotine and flavoring. Since the e-cigarettes are not a drug, Milin states that they do not have to have approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
“The Tobacco Control Act went into effect in 2010 where the FDA monitors the use of cigarettes. But cigarettes will never be banned because they were grandfathered in. So the FDA is supposed to somehow regulate them without banning them,” explained Milin. “They didn’t know what they should do with us because we’re such a new product so they put the [e-cigarettes] in the bin with Tobacco Control Act even though we’re not a tobacco.”
