The freezing temperatures Chicago is known (and sometimes loved) for can often make some people want to go into hibernation mode, steering clear of slippery sidewalks, slush and snow. EXTRA has compiled a list of holiday activities throughout Chicago that will help people ignore city’s seemingly arctic temperatures.
The Nutcracker:
A dark adaptation of the holiday tale by E.T.A Hoffman features large scale spectacle, puppets, songs, and more.

Zoo Lights:
Lincoln Park Zoo is converted into an enchanting winter wonderland illuminated by approximately 2 million lights; an event which has become one of Chicago’s must see seasonal events. Activities include: having your picture taken with Santa (through December 23) holiday crafts and ice carving.

Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Choir Holiday Concert:
Come and listen to the joyful performance of the Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Choir, which has served boys and girls from Pilsen, Little Village, Bridgeport, McKinley Park, Lawndale, and surrounding neighborhoods since 2007.

Holiday Train:
The holiday train is back with Santa and his elves passing out candy canes and cheerful greetings. The holiday train will travel all CTA rail lines in December as part of regular rail service.
