Pets make perfect companions for animal lovers, and studies show pet owners live longer, happier lives. There are a number of animal shelters in the Chicago area that house pets who desperately need someone to provide them with a home. Many shelters also accept donations and volunteers to help them care for their animals.

PAWS Chicago is the city's largest No Kill humane organization, focused on solutions to end the killing of homeless dogs and cats in the city of Chicago, which has dropped more than 50 percent since its founding in 1997. PAWS Chicago is working to build a No Kill Chicago -- a city where pets are no longer destroyed just because they are homeless.
