Carlos Claudio discusses his campaign for sub circuit judge

As of this week, there are seven candidates running for Judge David Delgado’s vacancy, making it one of the most competitive in the ballot come March 20.

The 15 sub circuits in Cook County were created in an effort to have representation of the local communities in Chicago. The 6th sub circuit includes Humboldt Park, Logan Square and Roscoe Village.

Candidate Carlos Claudio spoke with EXTRA about the meaning behind his campaign, why he feels he is the best fit, and what he hopes to accomplish for the community.

Why have you decided to run for the 6th sub circuit judge position in this year’s primaries?

Carlos Claudio: I was a little worried the names I was hearing were not those of people who may be able to represent the community. I think it’s important that [this judge] be interactive, have ties to the community and understand the struggles that they have gone through. I wanted to make sure that those ideas were being met.

What makes you a good representation of the community you plan to be a judge for?

I grew up in the Northwest side of Chicago. I’m involved in many organizations such as Youth Services Projects and ASPIRA. I do pro bono work. I am very aware of the things that are going on. I also have a balanced background. I was not only a prosecutor but also did some defense work. I’ve seen both sides.
