The democratic primary on March 20, 2012 is fast approaching. Community leader, Cuahutemoc Morfin is running for state representative in the 2nd district against Josip "Joe" Trutin and the incumbent Edward Acevedo. The second district includes portions of Bridgeport, Pilsen, Chinatown, McKinley Park, Back of the Yards and Brighton Park. The long-time Pilsen resident answered questions regarding his campaign, transparency in government, ward remapping and why Chicagoans only need “public servants” not politicians.
EXTRA: What makes you a good representation of the community you plan to be a state rep in?
Cuahtemoc Morfin: First off I am very passionate about what I do. I don’t see this as a career I see this as a passion. I can bring new ideas so I can advocate for legislation that is to the interests of the people not for corporations and special interests groups as the current state representative has done. I have a lot to offer as a community activist, as a resident, and as an elected official at the local school council for Benito Juarez High School. I am willing to walk the streets and talk to people not just sit behind a desk.
EXTRA: What are some of the things that you do to inform the community about the importance in knowing who is running for state rep?
One of the things I know for sure is to be informed and educated. A lot of people don’t know what an alderman’s job is or what a state representative does. People ask me what does a state representative do and why should I come out and vote.
