EN: So it’s not true that you should push through a workout if you are injured?
GM: Well, you can workout, but you should do cross-training. Do exercises that work another part of the body.
EN: What if you overdo it during a workout?
GM: Then you should just stretch, drink fluids and get a message.
EN: Is it safe to run in extreme weather conditions?
GM: There are some medical conditions that get worse with weather, cold weather especially, like exercise-induced asthma. So be sure to wear warm clothes and wrap your face, wear a hat.
EN: What about extremely hot temperatures?
GM: As long as you are hydrated, it’s fine. Of course, it depends on the person, but if you are a person who likes to run in hot weather, you need to drink a lot of fluid. If you don’t, you will get dehydrated. And if you get dehydrated, you can get muscle cramps and you can pass out.
EN: After a long workout, what relaxes the muscles best?
GM: Warm showers works best for the muscles, but if you are injured or have a sprain or strain, you should ice it for 72 hours, which decreases inflammation and swelling.
EN: Why do people get cramps?
GM: It’s usually because the muscles are dehydrated. Cramps must be treated with a lot of fluids. When you are running you should drink until you feel like you have to urinate. And then you drink some more.
EN: Are your players on a strict eating regimen?
GM: Yes, because if you are going to exercise, you have to have a healthy diet. You cannot eat a lot of heavy meals or spicy meals that will upset your stomach.
EN: When do you think the best time to workout is?
