“[The mental hospital] was the best acting school I went to,” Torre said. “You get to see real life. You realize that everything is not black and white. There are always shades of grey.”

Although he admits acting was not something he ever thought about pursuing (he actually wanted to be a professional baseball player as a kid), Torre went to his first audition after taking an acting class and landed a role on the 1994 Spanish soap opera “Marielena.”

“Little by little, I started working and got more into it,” Torre said. “I realized if I was going to do this I should do it well, so I started to study more.”

Torre says he has grown as an actor over the last few years. His background in psychology has helped him understand how to read a role deeper than a short character description could offer.

“If I go into an audition for a drug addict, I go in there wanting to know what is behind this addiction,” Torre said. “I don’t see him as just another bad guy. I start asking questions like ‘Who is this person? Does he love anybody? What is he passionate about?’ I feel like I have grown a lot as an actor because of this.”
