The last time EXTRA spoke to actor Óscar Nuñez, his new film, “The Proposal” starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, was about to hit theaters and the sixth season of “The Office” was about to start shooting.
Four months later, “The Proposal” has just been released on DVD after raking in nearly $164 million at the box office and “The Office” is on its eighth episode of the season, which will air on NBC Oct. 29. Nuñez, 50, also won the first Alma Award of his career last month for his role as the laid-back Dunder Mifflin Paper Company employee Óscar Martínez on “The Office.”
During his second interview with EXTRA this year, Nuñez, who is of Cuban descent, talked about how Season 6 of “The Office” is shaping up and what his family thought of his revealing role in “The Proposal.”
EXTRA: Congratulations on your first Alma Award last month. How did it feel when they called your name?
Óscar Nuñez: Well, they kind of told me it was going to happen, so it wasn’t a surprise. (Laughs) But it was nice. The important thing about [the Alma Awards] is that it’s sponsored by [the National Council of] La Raza, which is a grassroots organization that helps people get into homes, get educated and registered to vote.
I’m sure it’s easy to meet most of the Latino talent in Hollywood at an awards show like the Almas, but is there someone you haven’t met that you would like to?
Well, Jimmy Smits was at the Almas, but I didn’t meet him there. But I did get to meet him at the Emmys, so that was cool. I’ve enjoyed his work and really liked his story arch in “Dexter.”
