About the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD)

The state of Illinois created MWRD to oversee water treatment and quality in the Chicagoland area. The mission of the district is to protect the health and safety of the public in its service area, the quality of the water supply source, Lake Michigan and improve the quality of water in watercourses in its service area. The responsibility of the district is to protect businesses and homes from flood damage and manage water as a vital resource for its service area.
