Giannoulias’ parents came to this country with a dream. As a son of immigrant parents, working toward immigration reform is important for him. If elected, he plans to establish a responsible path toward citizenship in a manner that is fair, along with a strong border patrol.
“I have incredible respect for folks who come here and work hard,” Giannoulias said.
Education
Education is also an issue on top of his agenda. On his Web site, Giannoulias writes that the state is facing a serious long-term competitive disadvantage. In the last eight years, Illinois went from first to 10th in terms of the percentage of young adults holding a bachelor’s degree.
“We are not investing enough in quality education,” Giannoulias said.
If elected, he plans to offer financial incentives for students with good grades and raise the Pell grant.
“We need to expand resources, be more aggressive,” Giannoulias said.
